Marjie Laciak PharmD and Brian Heckman PharmD of Fagen Pharmacy Hobart, Indiana attended the Chicago area's first Diabetes Alliance Meeting which facilitated connecting physicians, educators, and independent pharmacists for improved diabetes patient outcomes.
It was held at The James Hotel in Chicago, in Illinois on Wednesday September 14, 2011 and was sponsored by McKesson and BD. Break-out group sessions involved discussions about the best way to impact diabetic patients.
Overall, the most enlightening statistic revolved around pharmacists. Pharmacist participation in patient care is associated with nearly a 50 percent decrease in adverse drug reactions, fewer medication errors, improved patient compliance with drug regimes, and higher overall quality of life scores.
Fagen Pharmacy is looking forward to creating a dynamic diabetes education program to begin to make those influences on our patients.
