Fagen Pharmacy Goes Green -
One Vial and One Oval at a Time

Fagen Pharmacy entered partnership with Rexam in January of 2010 as a means to “Go Green” and reduce the environmental impact by using Rexam’s 100% recycled ovals and vials. The recycled products that are green in color will differentiate Fagen Pharmacy from their competitors less concerned with protecting the environment. Ovals and vials hold the medication prescribed by physicians filled by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy.

Rexam is the world’s second largest consumer packaging company. It is the leading global beverage cans maker and one of the global leaders in rigid plastic packaging.

Rexam is business partners to some of the worlds most famous and successful consumer brands as well as offers a broad range of packaging services and solutions for different industries, using different materials and technologies.

The products offer the standard 100% post consumer recycled PET resin; maintain high standards in light transmission requirements set by the United States Phamacopeia, moisture permeation requirements, child-resistant and senior-friendly protocol requirements set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and resin that complies with FDA regulations.

Fagen Pharmacy transitioned into using these vials and ovals to fill their prescriptions early in the spring of 2010 from McKesson, Fagen’s largest supplier of over-the counter and prescription medications.

Responses from customers have been positive. While the ovals and vials are tinted dark green and amber and may be difficult for some patients to easily see the medication through the container, this standard ensures that when drugs are stored in favorable conditions that the potency of the drug is kept.

Fagen Pharmacy is proud to help to reduce the consumption of resources, minimize the impact on nature and provide product value when it comes to serving its patients with prescription needs.
