How to Tackle Cold and Flu Season with Fagen Pharmacy Supplements

Posted on September 15, 2016

It is that time of year again to prepare for the cold and flu season. While it is recommended to get the flu vaccine each season, the flu vaccine alone may not be enough to handle all the viruses that circulate our way. Luckily, Fagen Pharmacy carries amazing products to help combat and/or help prevent symptoms. These products are supplemental products. There are myths that supplemental products are not regulated or that there is no evidence on how they work. The truth is that supplemental products are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, a lot of evidence on how well they work is based on research done in Europe.

For ADULT cold/flu prevention: Wholemune

The key ingredient in Wholemune is beta-glucan. Beta-glucan is known for its support on the immune system to help fight off sickness. This product was designed specifically to prevent the common cold and its symptoms. Studies have shown that this product actually reduces upper respiratory infections, tiredness, tension, and physical stress within 4 weeks. All you have to do is take once capsule by mouth once daily to keep the doctor away!

For ADULT cold/flu symptoms: Viracid

Viracid is used to help with cold symptoms or when you immediately feel that you are going to be sick. This product contains echinacea and astragalus which work together in order to make your immune cells more active and fight off your cold.  It also contains black elderberry that has shown to resolve symptoms within one to two days and adrographolides which has shown to decreasesymptoms within the first five days. Viracid also contains key nutrients that boost immune defenses.  In order to use this product effectively, you will need to take 1 or 2 capsules per hour. (Recommendation is 12 capsules in 24 hours to be symptom-free within 48 hours).

For CHILD & Adult cold/flu prevention: Imu-Max

Imu-Max is specifically designed for children and for patients who have trouble swallowing. The two key ingredients are echinacea and propolis. Echinancea and propolis are used to boost the immune system to help fight off sickness. Imu-Max is similar to Wholemune and was designed to prevent the common cold and its symptoms. Children up to 6 years old should take ½ to 1 teaspoon twice a day. Children over 6 years old should take 1 to 2 teaspoons twice daily. Adults should take 1 tablespoon twice a day.

For CHILD & ADULT sore throat/cough: Natranix

We have all had the common wet or dry cough and sore throat. Luckily, there is a liquid product called Natranix that was design to treat these symptoms. Natranix contains four key ingredients. Echinacea is used to support the immune system to help relieve coughs and sore throats. Thyme is used to help prevent extra mucus production. Sage is used to soothe the lungs. Elderberry boosts immunity and prevents extra mucus in your lungs. Anise is used to loosen and cough up extra mucus. Children 1 year or older should take 1 to 2 teaspoons three to four times daily per day. Adults should take 1 tablespoon three to four times per day.
Stop by any of our Fagen Pharmacies to purchase these supplements to help you and your family tackle cold and flu season! They are all pharmacist recommended!
